I've been researching a lot of shoes from Egypt through the twentieth century for my upcoming Accessory Design textbook and I have come across some really fun ones. If you think Alexander McQueen created the weirdest ones, think again! History proves that everything has been done already and Lady Gaga is not that strange after all. Check out this collage of shoes from 16th century and Lapland.

Also if you missed yesterday's article in the NY Times about the oldest shoe in the world in the NY you can read it here:
Thanks for the sharing the shoe images. That one in the middle looks more like a serving platter! I think they are great. They are much prettier than Vibram FiveFinger shoes that I actually see people wearing out to have coffee these days! Thanks for posting.

Well maybe Lady Gaga is not that strange but she is very brave for trying to walk with such uncomfortable shoes adding a monstrous hells.
Although I don't comment I love your blog.

I can't wait for your book! I go to FIT and take classes in the accessories department. Those are the first "boots with the furs" in that image! :)

I love learning about the history of shoes. Here's a site about the shoes of this century: http://www.centuryinshoes.com/ (I wrote about it here: http://bellysbutton.typepad.com/bellys/2010/05/solmates.html)

I've recently purchased from Amazon UK a pair of high heeled white sandals with a platform. My order was shipped yesterday and they should be here in a week. So, I'll have plenty of time to practise walking with them before the holidays! Thank you for posting this amazing collage of shoes!!! Ah right! I know, I'm a shoe freak...!
