This was one of the few presentations I saw this week and was certainly impressed by the elegant setting, very wearable clothes and sophisticated aesthetic of these fresh graduates. Fashion designers Jeff Dodd, David J. Krause, and Nina Zilka presented their fourth collection of garments for men and women as the twentyten. They founded the label as students in Pratt Institute's fashion design department and named it for their graduation year from Pratt (they graduated in May 2010).
The presentation took place in the Starrett-Lehigh Building on 26th Street and the flood of light through the wall of windows provided a spectacular backdrop with play of architectural shadows.
The jewelry was created by jewelry design program graduate Carrie Bilbo, whose work is based on human phobias such as arachnophobia includes silver branches, gleaming cicadas, and bejeweled spiders.
This was twentyten's first presentation as members of the Pratt Design Incubator for Sustainable Innovation, which launches new, socially and environmentally-responsible business ventures proposed by ambitious students, alumni, and faculty. They are the first group of fashion designers to be a part of the Incubator, which is located in the Brooklyn Navy Yard. Sustainable aspects of their fourth collection include local production and the use of scrap material in their garments and accessories.
