Window Works

Some clothing stores spend thousands of dollars arranging window displays, others just display the merchandise.

Fashion's Night Out NYC

This FNO one felt a bit calmer than previous years! I did the round uptown from Henri Bendel, through Bergdorf Goodman and then up Madison Avenue.

Nenri Bendel had a surprising amount of stands with food, (none of it free which reduced the temptation greatly!)

One of my favorite windows was the sexy Agent Provocateur:

And this girl was probably the friendliest and had the most fun outfit!

Parsons at Saks Fifth Ave NYC

It is an annual tradition for Saks Fifth Ave store to feature work from the fashion design graduating students in its windows. After a fabulous cocktail party where students and parents celebrated their achievements, this Wednesday I snapped some photos of the windows. 

Austin Window Shopping and Spooky Skulls

One of the things that I really enjoyed in Austin was the vintage shopping on South Congress Ave. It's such an eclectic area with vintage shops and restaurants and really fun windows. The vintage food trailers stole my heart, but that's a whole other post! For now here are my favorite shops.

Stella Blue is not really a clothing store but the sign and the blue theme stole my heart. I love how they incorporated the Texas star but it's in teal and blue and works with their theme instead of just being about Texas.


Uncommon Objects was one of my favorite because it was just uncommon. I mean who puts a giant rabbit and fan contraption on top of their store. They certainly did have uncommon objects.


This store totally spooked me. I thought I saw my friend Gretchen walk in it while I was talking on the phone and pacing in front of it. I followed her when I was done only to find out that there is nobody in there. The lone salesperson directed me to a back room where I found myself surrounded by skulls but still no Gretchen. By then I had a spooky feel that she walked in here and magically disappeared, so I ran back out, where I encountered another woman looking for her whole family, which she thought disappeared in that same store. Needless to say we looked at each other in dismay and started looking around helpless. After a couple of minutes of panic I spotted Gretchen at the end of the block looking and waving at me. She said she doesn't remember walking in that store at all. I think she did and got transported to the corner of the street. And even if she didn't my story sounds so much better for a store filled with Mexican sugar skulls!

Bright Color is in for Spring 2011

I cannot wait to wear blindingly bright colors this sprig/summer season, just like the designs featured in the Bergdorf Goodman windows.

Pratt + Paper & Ralph Pucci at Macy's

Remember the Pratt and Ralph Pucci paper manequin exhibit? If you missed it like me you can now see it throughout seven new window displays at the Macy's flagship store on Broadway and 34 St in Manhattan. The display showcases paper looks that compliment Ralph Pucci's Spring 2011 "GIRL 2" mannequins as well as inventive paper sculptures and will be on view through January 26, 2011. The work is part of an exhibition titled "Pratt + Paper & Ralph Pucci" that was on view at Pucci's Gallery Nine Showroom in December 2010. I won't be able to take photos till the last week as I am heading down to Miami for a week, but should be able to catch it the last three days.

In the meantime here is what Paul Olszewski, Director of Windows, Macy's Herald Square had to say about it:

"As soon as I saw the student's work I knew immediately I wanted to showcase it in our Broadway windows. The creativity and craftsmanship that the students exhibited on this project is just amazing. At Macy's we truly believe in promoting art and artistry in our windows. It is this fusion between art and fashion that really make our windows unique and working on this collaboration has been no exception. I'm excited for the students, as well as for the thousands of people who will get to view these incredible designs," he added.

Ralph Lauren Holiday Windows 2010

I thought I should continue with the X-mas window theme and Ralph Lauren's mansion at 72nd street in NYC is certainly a worthy contender to the Bergdorf Goodman windows. They have a dedicated creative team that only works on the windows and create some spectacular scenes.
